Warhammer Armies

I have two Warhammer 40k tournaments coming up. I’m playing in the 40k Combat Patrol at Adepticon (on April 1st — can’t wait to see what pranks gamers play at conventions!) Also, my son and I are playing in a team tournament on April 9th at the local game story (Total Escape Games). The two Warhammer Armies we will be playing at these: Imperial Guard and Dark Angels.

Combat Patrol is my favorite game format. Very fast games of just a few units on small tables. The Adepticon Combat Patrol tourney will have three games played in only four hours. It is a blast! The rules are standard, but there are some modifications to the force composition: 400 point army 5th Edition Rules, at least one troop choice, no more than one HQ which is optional, no mandatory unit choices, no model can have more than 2 wounds, psykers can’t use any power requiring a psychic test, no model can have 2+ save, no unique or named characters, and no vehicles with a total armour value over 33. I think I’ll play the following IG list:

Platoon Command Squad, 34 pts = 2 * 6 (base cost 6) + Platoon Standard 15 + Vox Caster 5 + w/Lascannon 32

• Heavy Weapons Team, 30 pts = (base cost 10 + Lascannon 20)
• Platoon Commander, 6 pts
• Chimera, 55 pts

2x Infantry Squads, 50 pts = 7 * 5 (base cost 5) + Vox Caster 5 + Meltagun x1 10

• Heavy Weapons Team, 30 pts = (base cost 10 + Lascannon 20)
• Sergeant, 5 pts
• Chimera, 55 pts

This gives me a nice mix of flamers (on the Chimeras) for hordes, anti-armor from the las cannons, and mobility from the Chimeras. What it lacks is robustness — morale is not so hot. Oh, well. Can’t have everything with only 400 points!

The team tournament has my son and I playing two armies of 1000 points each. We’re planning on playing Dark Angels and Imperial Guard. I’ll post the lists in a future post.

HOWEVER, the real challenge right now is painting. As you can see from the pictures, my infantry is about 60-70% done. However, by Adepticon, I’ve got to paint three Chimeras and finish the infantry. I’m looking forward to using my air brush again.

By the team tournament, I’ve got to add one more Chimera, two command squads, and three more bases of heavy weapons. That’s A LOT OF WORK for only a few weeks! Guess the Cities of Death project on 40k Terrain and the Orks I’ve been painting here are going to have to wait. It’s a good think the Dark Angels are already finished.
